Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Daud Aweis Jama delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Africa Day celebrations hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

“I had the honor of participating in the Africa Day celebrations hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. I highlighted that Africa Day serves as a reminder of the fundamental principles that have shaped our continent—namely unity, independence, and solidarity,” the Minister said.

“It is an occasion for us to reflect on our achievements, confront the challenges we face, and renew our collective dedication to fostering a peaceful, prosperous, and resilient Africa,” he added.

Like many countries across the continent, Somalia has experienced significant hardships and setbacks. Nonetheless, with determination and hope, we are charting a new course—one grounded in peace, reconstruction, and national reconciliation.

“We understand that sustainable growth and stability can only be attained through open dialogue, mutual understanding, and diplomatic efforts. This year, the African Union’s theme for 2025 is “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations”, Minister Jama said.

The theme underscores the critical importance of addressing past injustices, such as colonial exploitation and systemic discrimination, which have inflicted lasting harm on our communities.

It urges us to pursue justice and implement reparative actions that recognize historical wrongs, promote healing, and support fair development for all.

“The future of Africa hinges on our united efforts to advance peace, stability, and progress. We must collaborate not only as neighboring nations or fellow Africans but also as global citizens with a shared destiny. Our collective strength lies in unity, mutual understanding, and a common vision of building a peaceful and equitable world,” the Minister added.
