MOGADISHU, Somalia – The meetings of the Policy Organs of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), currently convening at the technical committee level, entered their second day today as part of the 35th Ordinary Session being hosted in Mogadishu. The session brings together security experts from across the region to deliberate on pressing defense and safety mandates.
Experts and delegates representing EASF member states are engaged in a comprehensive review of the current regional security landscape. Key agenda items under discussion include the strategic formulation of the EASF operation plan for the fiscal year 2026 and a detailed examination of the External Audit Report. Additionally, the committee is analyzing the results of an independent assessment regarding the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and its consequential impact on East African nations.
These deliberations are an integral component of ongoing efforts to fortify security cooperation and enhance defense collaboration among member states. The sessions highlight the essential function of the EASF in safeguarding peace and maintaining long-term stability throughout the Horn of Africa and the wider region.
As the 35th Ordinary Session progresses, the level of engagement is set to elevate. In the coming days, the technical meetings will be succeeded by high-level gatherings attended by Chiefs of Defense Forces and Ministers of Defense from the EASF member countries, who will finalize resolutions and provide strategic direction for the organization.
