Dhusamareb, (SONNA) — The Federal Government of Somalia has officially concluded the Federal and Federal Member States Coordination Conference on Energy and Water Resources, which ended today in Dhusamareb. The conference was formally closed by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Federal Government, Abdullahi Bidhaan Warsame, accompanied by the State Minister and Deputy Minister.

The two-day conference, held on January 31 and February 1, 2026, focused on strengthening cooperation and policy coordination between federal and state levels to develop a unified national approach to addressing drought, improving access to reliable energy, and expanding water services across the country. During the sessions, the Ministry presented key ongoing projects, including the Somalia Electricity Recovery Project (ILAYS), the Jowhar Water Development Project, the Barwaaqo+ Project—which emphasizes community cooperation and the construction of water reservoirs—and the Abaartire Program, a ministry-led initiative aimed at delivering long-term solutions to drought and ensuring sustainable water sources for Somalia’s future.

Ministers of Energy from the Federal Member States of Galmudug, South West, Hirshabelle, Puntland (Waqooyi-Bari), and Jubbaland welcomed the strengthened collaboration with the Federal Ministry, reaffirming their commitment to advancing the energy sector and combating drought. They also emphasized the importance of equitable implementation of development projects across all regions.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister Abdullahi Bidhaan Warsame stated that the Ministry is fully committed to ensuring Somalia has reliable electricity and clean water, stressing that projects and water wells are being implemented nationwide without political bias. He noted that providing affordable electricity and safe water to Somali citizens has been a top priority since he assumed office, forming the foundation of the ministry’s achievements.

The conference aimed to reinforce intergovernmental coordination and produce a unified national plan to respond to drought challenges, expand access to clean water and affordable energy, and promote sustainable development across Somalia.
