Somali Government Warns Agencies Against Collaborating with Extremists

Mogadishu (SONNA) – January 30, 2025: The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a stern warning to all local and international agencies operating within its borders, cautioning them against any form of collaboration or engagement with extremist groups.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation (MoIFAR), the government emphasized its commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding national security. The ministry highlighted the enforcement of Anti-Terrorism Law No. 007, enacted on March 20, 2023, as a legal framework supporting these measures.
Key Points from the Ministry's Statement:

- Prohibition of Support to Terrorist Groups: Agencies are explicitly warned not to work with, facilitate services for, obey orders from, or offer funds to terrorist organizations such as Al-Shabaab and Daesh.
- Revocation of Licenses: Any organization found violating these directives will face severe consequences, including the immediate revocation of their operating licenses.
- Legal Action: Entities discovered to be members or representatives of terrorist groups will be subjected to direct action by security and justice agencies, in accordance with national laws.
- Operational Compliance: NGOs must ensure their operations are free from any involvement with designated terrorist groups to avoid legal repercussions.
- Increased Scrutiny: The government's directive indicates heightened monitoring of agency activities to prevent indirect support to extremists.
