Somalia, Egypt Strengthen Cooperation in Fisheries, Blue Economy, and Petroleum and Mineral Resources

Mogadishu, (SONNA) – Somalia and Egypt have agreed to enhance cooperation in fisheries and blue economy, and petroleum and mineral resources following separate meetings held in Mogadishu between senior Somali ministers and an Egyptian delegation led by Ambassador Mohamed Karim Fouad Sherif, Egypt’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs.
The Egyptian delegation met with Somalia’s Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, H.E. Ahmed Hassan Aden, and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, H.E. Dahir Shire, to discuss ways of expanding bilateral cooperation in key economic sectors.
Talks focused on strengthening collaboration in marine resources, fisheries, trade, petroleum, and mineral resources, while exploring opportunities for joint investment and sustainable resource development.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of capacity building, technical training, knowledge exchange, and institutional development to support Somalia’s efforts to maximize the benefits of its natural resources.
Minister Ahmed Hassan Aden emphasized the need to build a strategic partnership that promotes investment and supports the transfer of knowledge and skills to Somali professionals. The two sides also explored ways Somalia could benefit from Egypt’s experience in the development and management of marine resources.
Both meetings reflected the growing cooperation between Somalia and Egypt and their shared commitment to advancing economic development through stronger sectoral partnerships.
The meetings were attended by Egypt’s Ambassador to Somalia, Ambassador Mohamed Salah, and other officials from both countries.
