Somali Hero Awards November 2026 to Honor Outstanding Somali Change-makers in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — Organizers of the prestigious Somali Hero Awards 2026 have announced that this year’s ceremony will take place on November 14, 2026, at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest Hotel, located at 7025 Northland Drive North, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
The annual event, organized by the Somali Diaspora Center and Volunteers of Somalia, is expected to bring together distinguished leaders, scholars, professionals, community advocates, philanthropists, artists, and public servants from across the globe for an evening dedicated to celebrating Somali excellence and achievement.
Speaking during the official announcement, Ali Gaashaan, President of the Somali Hero Awards, said that this year’s gathering will be one of the most historic editions of the event since its inception.
“The 2026 Somali Hero Awards will be a landmark occasion. We will honor remarkable individuals whose dedication, sacrifice, leadership, and service have positively impacted Somali communities and contributed to the development of our people and nation. Their stories deserve recognition and celebration,” Gaashaan said.
Organizers say the awards have become one of the most respected platforms for recognizing Somali individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to humanitarian service, education, healthcare, business leadership, cultural preservation, and community development.
Hassan Mustaf Isak, Executive Director of the Somali Hero Awards, told reporters that preparations are already underway for what is expected to be the largest gathering in the history of the awards.
“This year’s event will bring together influential Somali figures with historic contributions to our communities. Guests and honorees are expected to travel from all five continents, making the Somali Hero Awards a truly global celebration of Somali achievement and unity,” Isak said.
The 2026 ceremony follows a highly successful event in 2025, during which several prominent Somali figures were honored for their extraordinary service and contributions. Among those recognized were:
• Dr. Habeeb
• Humanitarian leader Sheikh Nuur Haadi
• Dr. Amina, Director of Hawa Abdi Hospital
• The late Cilmi Hagar, honored posthumously for his sacrifice and service to the Somali people

Organizers note that the 2026 edition will introduce new recognition categories, expanded international participation, and special tributes highlighting individuals whose work has transformed lives within Somali communities around the world.
The previous ceremony also attracted prominent government officials and dignitaries. Among the notable guests were Saadiya Samatar, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Somalia; Daud Aweis, former Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Somalia; Member of Parliament Caasho Koos, along with other senior leaders, diplomats, and community representatives.
As anticipation builds, organizers describe the upcoming ceremony as more than an awards event. They say it is a celebration of resilience, leadership, achievement, and the enduring spirit of Somalis worldwide.
The Somali Hero Awards have steadily grown into an international platform that highlights inspiring stories of service and excellence while fostering connections among Somali communities across continents. With participants expected from Africa, North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, the 2026 gathering is poised to become one of the largest celebrations of Somali achievement ever held in the diaspora.
The Somali Hero Awards 2026 will take place on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest Hotel in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, bringing together a global audience to honor the heroes whose dedication continues to shape the future of the Somali people.
