Somalia, Algeria Discuss Strengthening Cooperation on Reconciliation and Governance

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali, received the newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Alim, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu, nearly four months after the Minister’s official visit to Algeria.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, H.E. Abdihakim Hassan Ashkir, and the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle.

The discussions focused on strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Somalia and Algeria and following up on areas of cooperation identified during the Minister’s visit to Algeria.

Key areas discussed included reconciliation and stabilization, security, local governance, institutional capacity building, civil registration and national identification.

The two sides also explored ways to advance practical institutional cooperation and technical exchanges between relevant Somali and Algerian institutions, building on the engagements held during the Minister’s visit.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both countries to deepening bilateral cooperation and supporting Somalia’s efforts to strengthen governance, stability and institutional development.
