SNAF Command Opens Preliminary Investigation into Video Showing Abuse of a Prisoner of War

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) Command has launched a preliminary investigation into members of the Armed Forces who circulated a video on social media showing the abuse of a prisoner of war during an operation against Al-Shabaab militants.

Such conduct, and any similar act, clearly contravenes the SNAF Code of Conduct, military regulations and the laws of armed conflict.

The SNAF Command strongly warns all personnel against engaging in such conduct. Firm legal and military disciplinary action will be taken against anyone found to have violated the laws of armed conflict, the rights of prisoners of war or human rights.
