Somalia, Qatar Discuss Strengthening Security and Defence Cooperation

Doha, (SONNA) — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, held talks with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, H.E. Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, as part of his official engagements with senior Qatari leaders.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in security and defence, as well as promoting regional and international stability, with particular emphasis on jointly addressing the growing threat posed by cross-border terrorism.

Prime Minister Hamza briefed the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister on Somalia’s progress in stabilizing security in major cities and ongoing military operations against Al-Shabaab.

Sheikh Saud, who visited the Prime Minister at his residence in Doha, reaffirmed Qatar’s support for Somalia and expressed his government’s readiness to further expand cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.

Prime Minister Hamza thanked the Qatari government for the warm reception extended to him and his delegation and commended the strong level of bilateral relations between Somalia and Qatar.

He also expressed appreciation for Qatar’s continued support for Somalia’s sovereignty, particularly during periods when the country faced external challenges to its territorial integrity.
