Somali Government Launches Resettlement Programme for Over 1,000 Mogadishu Families

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Banadir Regional Administration has launched the first phase of a resettlement programme for families affected by the ongoing re-organization of informal settlements across Mogadishu.

During an inspection of the allocated site in Gubadley District, the Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of the Banadir Region, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab, announced that more than 1,000 families would be resettled in the area.

The planned settlement will provide essential public services and facilities, including clean water, electricity, a mosque, a health centre, a market and a public school. The programme aims to provide affected families with a safer and better-organized living environment.

Mayor Muungaab said the initiative would continue and expand to other districts where the administration has secured land to accommodate additional families.

The programme forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve urban planning and ensure that affected families have access to suitable housing and essential services.
