Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Monday held talks with members of Somalia’s civil society to discuss the completion of the country’s democratic transition, state-building efforts and progress achieved in security, governance and one-person, one-vote elections.
During the meeting, the president emphasized the critical role of civil society in strengthening state institutions, safeguarding national unity and promoting public participation in Somalia’s democratization process.
President Hassan Sheikh noted that the Federal Government of Somalia is prioritizing the development of government institutions, improvement of public services and the establishment of a direct electoral system.
The discussions also focused on the role of civil society in peacebuilding and reconciliation efforts, with the president commending Somali civil society organizations for their contributions to public awareness, protection of citizens’ rights and promotion of national cohesion.
For their part, civil society representatives shared views and recommendations on strengthening democracy, enhancing transparency in governance, accelerating social service delivery and deepening cooperation between the government and the public.
