Addis Ababa (SONNA) — The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Bashiir Mohamed Jama, delivered a key address during the SDG6 session at the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development 12, highlighting the impact of climate change on access to clean water.
The Minister noted that challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, and limited investment have significantly affected water security across Africa, posing a major obstacle to sustainable development. He stressed the urgent need to strengthen community resilience to better cope with these risks.
He further emphasized that access to clean water is directly linked to communities’ ability to adapt to climate change, underscoring its vital role in livelihoods and overall development.
In conclusion, the Minister called for enhanced international cooperation and increased investment to achieve SDG6, which aims to ensure the availability of safe and reliable water for all.
