Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, H.E. Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab, has urged parents in the capital to enroll their children in public schools.
The mayor made the call during a working visit to the Directorate of Education of Banadir Region, which recently underwent a major renovation. During the visit, he received briefings from various staff members on the directorate’s activities and ongoing efforts to improve the education sector.
Muungaab praised the Directorate of Education for its service to the community, stressing that the Banadir Regional Administration prioritizes the development of education services so that tax-paying parents can access free schooling for their children.
“I recently approved nearly $300,000 to support the development of schools in Banadir Region each academic year, and this funding will be increased, alongside plans to construct large new schools in the near future,” the mayor said.
He also called on parents in Mogadishu to send their children to school as part of efforts to combat illiteracy.
The governor added that the process of obtaining the middle school certificate has been simplified after previous challenges and urged education officials to ensure that the upcoming academic examinations are conducted transparently and fairly.
