Mogadishu, February 24, 2026 — The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), working in coordination with international partners, has carried out four planned security operations this week across parts of the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions, killing more than 23 Al-Shabaab terrorists, authorities said.
The preventive operations targeted militants who were preparing to launch attacks in several districts of the Hirshabelle State. NISA said the raids followed actionable intelligence indicating that Al-Shabaab had been mobilizing fighters in the Waab-Weyn and Goobo areas under Maxaas district, led by a commander identified as Mustafa Caato, as well as another group assembling in the Maxaa Saciid area of Middle Shabelle.
The operations—most recently conducted late last night—also resulted in the destruction of a militant camp in the Moqokori district of Hiiraan, where fighters, including members of the group’s so-called “Hisbada” units, had been stationed as part of planned attacks in the region.
NISA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying counter-terrorism operations to safeguard national security and stability. The agency urged citizens to report any security threats or information related to Al-Shabaab or ISIS via its hotlines: 199, 0770 747474, or 0620 545454.
