Beirut, SONNA – The Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Bihi Iman Egeh, today participated in the Arab States Conference on Public Finance and Budgetary Issues, held at the United Nations Headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon. The high-level conference focused on strategies for financing social sectors, including education, health, and welfare for vulnerable communities.
During a ministerial panel alongside the Ministers of Finance from Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria, Minister Bihi Iman Egeh shared Somalia’s experiences and lessons as a nation that has emerged from conflict and successfully undertaken extensive financial reforms.
The Minister highlighted Somalia’s remarkable achievements in leveraging technology to enhance domestic revenue collection and improve transparency in public finance. He also underlined the government’s success in restoring macroeconomic stability, noting that Somalia had completed the debt relief process under the HIPC Initiative and made strong advances in financial management and accountability.
Minister Bihi reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to sustaining fiscal discipline and expanding investments in key social sectors that directly impact citizens’ lives, positioning the country as a model for resilience and reform among post-conflict economies in the region.
