Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Somali National Army (SNA) on Tuesday morning carried out a planned military operation that resulted in the liberation of additional areas in the Middle Shabelle region from Al-Shabaab militants.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of the morning, targeted villages under the Xawaadley area of Middle Shabelle. During the offensive, government forces drove the militants out of the villages of Dharaawe and Galka Cumar.
Military officials said the operation inflicted heavy losses on the militants and brought relief to local residents who had been subjected to intimidation and violence. The areas have now been cleared of militant presence, restoring safety for civilians.
Deputy Commander of the 19th Gorgor Commando Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Abukar Hassan Ahmed (Galmadoobe), confirmed that security forces are continuing to pursue fleeing militants who were defeated during the operation.
