MOGADISHU (SONNA) — The Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has issued a stern assessment of the current security landscape, declaring that recent military engagements have effectively dismantled the operational momentum of Al-Shabaab. Speaking on the progress of ongoing offensives, the Minister highlighted that the insurgent group is now in a state of visible disarray, with its ability to project power weakening significantly by the day.
Minister Fiqi noted that the battlefield dynamics have shifted fundamentally. The latest confrontations between the Somali National Army and the insurgents have proven that the enemy is no longer capable of sustaining prolonged engagements. According to the Minister, the group’s command structures are fracturing under sustained pressure, forcing them into a defensive posture in areas where they previously held sway.
“In the most recent battles, our forces have clearly demonstrated that the enemy is now in decline and disarray, with its capabilities weakening day by day,” Minister Fiqi stated. He emphasized that the era of the group utilizing intimidation as a primary tactic is ending, as their strongholds are systematically cleared. The Minister pointed out that the terrorists, who once boasted of their power, are now fleeing with no safe havens left to occupy.
The Defence Minister’s remarks come amidst a series of intensified military operations across the central and southern regions. The government asserts that the sustained offensive has not only liberated territory but has also psychologically defeated the enemy, stripping them of the narrative of invincibility they once attempted to project.
