Mogadishu, SONNA — Federal Government of Somalia has confirmed the killing of a senior Al-Shabaab Kharijites leader during a planned security operation in the Lower Shabelle region, marking a significant blow to the militant group’s leadership.
The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, has confirmed that Abdullahi Hassan Abdi Osoble, widely known as Abdullahi Wadaad, was killed in a targeted operation carried out in the Kunya Barrow area of the Lower Shabelle region.
In a press conference, the Minister told the media that Abdullahi Wadaad was one of the senior leaders of the Al-Shabaab Kharijites militia and had long posed a serious threat to public peace and stability. Security forces carried out the operation following careful planning, resulting in the elimination of the militant leader..
The Minister stated that the slain leader was notorious for looting and extorting public property, fueling insecurity across multiple areas, and continuously instilling fear among local communities. He added that Abdullahi Wadaad was also involved in the killing of businessmen who were investing in Somalia, as well as in orchestrating several explosions inside the country.
The operation forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s leadership network and restore security and stability across the country. Somali authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding civilians, protecting economic activity, and continuing coordinated actions against extremist groups.
