MOGADISHU, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a crucial diplomatic consultation via telephone on Saturday with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar. The discussion centered on the escalating diplomatic challenges facing the Horn of Africa, with both leaders addressing the urgent need to protect the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia against recent external encroachment.

During the call, President Mohamud briefed the Emir on the Federal Government’s firm and unwavering position regarding emerging plans that pose a direct threat to Somalia’s national unity and political independence. The President articulated the severity of these challenges, warning that schemes aimed at fragmenting the nation compromise not only Somalia’s sovereignty but also the broader security architecture of the region. He highlighted the strategic geographic significance of the country, noting that maintaining stability in Somalia is essential for the security of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

In response, His Highness Sheikh Tamim expressed Qatar’s “principled support” for the brotherly nation of Somalia. The Emir unequivocally affirmed Doha’s dedication to safeguarding the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of the Federal Republic. He made it clear that Qatar stands with Mogadishu in defending its national borders against any form of violation.

The Emir further emphasized that international relations must be governed by the rule of law, specifically citing the absolute necessity of upholding the Charter of the United Nations. He stressed that the principle of respecting the established borders of sovereign, independent nations is non-negotiable and remains a cornerstone of global stability. This high-level engagement reinforces the strong diplomatic alliance between Mogadishu and Doha as Somalia continues to mobilize international support to defend its unitary statehood.
