State of Palestine Rejects Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland, Warns Against Displacement Schemes Targeting Gazans

RAMALLAH, Palestine – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine has issued a comprehensive statement affirming its absolute support for the unity, sovereignty, and political independence of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The Ministry categorically rejected and condemned the recent recognition of the Somaliland region by Israel, describing the move as an illegal step by an occupation authority that threatens the stability of the Horn of Africa.

The statement emphasized that Palestine stands firmly with the brotherly people of Somalia in their pursuit of security and dignified living. This position aligns with international law, as well as the consensus decisions of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Ramallah denounced any actions that lend legitimacy to separatism, asserting that such measures directly infringe upon Somalia’s territorial integrity. The Ministry characterized the recognition as part of a broader strategy by Israel, acting as a colonial power, to destabilize regional and Arab security by perpetuating conflict and division.

In a revealing disclosure, the Ministry noted that Israel had previously identified Somaliland as a potential destination for the forced displacement of Palestinians, particularly from the Gaza Strip. The State of Palestine declared its total rejection of these Israeli schemes, whether for forced displacement or under any other guise. Officials termed this matter a “red line,” warning against any international alignment with these rejected proposals. The statement highlighted that such plans are not only a violation of Palestinian rights but also an exploitation of the political situation in the Horn of Africa.

Concluding the address, the Ministry asserted that respect for the unity and sovereignty of states is a peremptory norm of international law. It condemned Israel’s persistence in threatening the region, stating that these actions constitute a clear violation of the United Nations Charter. Palestine called upon the global community to uphold the principles of non-interference and to reject attempts to impose new realities that contradict international legitimacy.
