Mogadishu, (SONNA): The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, on Thursday conducted an inspection tour of polling stations where voting was underway for the Benadir Regional Local Council elections, as large numbers of residents of the capital turned out to cast their ballots.
The Prime Minister visited polling centers in the districts of Shangani, Bondhere, and Hamar-Jajab, where he observed the overall conduct of the elections, including security arrangements and services provided to voters. He emphasized that maintaining peace, ensuring transparency in the electoral process, and respecting the will of the citizens are the fundamental pillars for achieving genuine democracy. He noted that safeguarding these principles is a shared responsibility of government institutions and society at large.
Prime Minister Hamza stated that the day marks the realization of a long-held aspiration of the Somali people, describing it as a historic milestone and a concrete step forward in strengthening good governance and democracy. He added that the direct elections represent a renewed commitment to restoring the political rights of Somali citizens and advancing a people-centered democratic system.
