Mogadishu(SONNA)-As preparations continue for the Benadir Regional Council elections, scheduled to take place on 25 December, government ministers are intensifying inspection visits to designated voter registration centers, encouraging residents to collect their voter cards and actively participate in choosing their preferred representatives.

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama, received his voter registration card issued by the National Independent Electoral Commission, at a time when the residents of Mogadishu are expected to turn out in large numbers for the upcoming Local Council Elections.

Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, who had previously registered in Hodan District of the Benadir region, collected his voter card this morning at the same district. He commended the smooth and transparent operational process of the Electoral Commission.

“This is a historic achievement that enables the Somali people, after 56 years, to decide their own future. Choosing the representative who speaks on your behalf in politics makes it easier to hold leadership accountable,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

He further emphasized the firm commitment of the DanQaran Government to restoring power to the people, describing the local council elections in the capital as a crucial step toward strengthening democracy and public participation.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister last night met with members of the Mogadishu community, where he encouraged citizens to register, collect their voter cards, and fully participate in the forthcoming elections.

The Benadir Regional Council elections are expected to mark a historic milestone, offering the residents of Mogadishu a long-awaited opportunity to directly elect their local leaders after decades without such a process.
