BELGRADE (SONNA) – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, MP Isaak Mursal, held a strategic diplomatic meeting with his Serbian counterpart, Deputy Foreign Minister Damjan Jović, in Belgrade this week. The high-level talks focused on revitalizing the historic friendship between the two nations and identifying new avenues for bilateral cooperation.

During the discussions, the two officials engaged in a comprehensive review of the long-standing diplomatic ties between Mogadishu and Belgrade. The dialogue centered on expanding the scope of their partnership beyond traditional diplomacy to include tangible sectors that drive national development.

Key areas of cooperation identified during the meeting included:

Technological Innovation: Sharing expertise in modern technology and technical systems.

Economic Development: Exploring trade and investment opportunities to boost both economies.

Education: Strengthening academic exchanges and scholarship programs.

Security: Coordinating efforts on security matters of mutual concern.

Beyond bilateral issues, the ministers discussed increasing coordination in international forums. Both sides agreed on the importance of aligning their foreign policy perspectives to better advocate for shared interests on the global stage.

They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular political consultations, emphasizing that consistent dialogue is essential for protecting mutual interests and honoring the commitments made between the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Serbia.

Concluding the visit, Deputy Minister Mursal expressed his gratitude to the Government of Serbia for the warm reception accorded to his delegation in Belgrade. He reiterated Somalia’s readiness to deepen the partnership, ensuring that the expanded cooperation yields direct benefits for the citizens of both nations.
