MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, attended a high-profile ceremony in Mogadishu today to commemorate the National Day of the State of Qatar. The event was organized to celebrate the deep-rooted ties between the two nations ahead of the official holiday date later this month.

Qatar National Day, officially observed on December 18, marks the historic unification of the country in 1878 by the founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani. It serves as a day to honor the national identity, history, and the values upon which the State of Qatar was built.

In his keynote address, Prime Minister Hamza extended his heartfelt congratulations to the leadership and people of Qatar. He expressed profound gratitude for the continuous and multifaceted support that the Government of Qatar has provided to the Somali people and their government during critical times of recovery and state-building.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the relationship between Somalia and Qatar transcends standard diplomacy; it is a bond defined by brotherhood, mutual cooperation, and shared progress.

“The diplomatic, trade, and developmental relations between Somalia and Qatar are strengthening day by day,” Prime Minister Hamza stated. He noted that this growing partnership reflects the shared interests of both societies and aligns with the collective development aspirations of the two brotherly nations.

The ceremony in Mogadishu underscores the close diplomatic alliance between the two countries, with Qatar remaining a key partner in Somalia’s infrastructure development and humanitarian efforts.
