Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has inaugurated the Second National Conference of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) in Mogadishu.

This year’s conference highlights the government’s achievements in delivering free, efficient, and around-the-clock public services to Somali citizens through the national ID system.

The event brought together senior officials from federal ministries and agencies, representatives from federal member states, international partners, and other dignitaries.

NIRA’s Director General, Abdiwali Timacadde, stated in his keynote address that the authority has registered more than one million Somalis since its establishment. He added that over the next three years, NIRA aims to register an additional 15 million citizens.

The two-day conference will feature panel discussions and research presentations focused on strengthening Somalia’s national identification infrastructure. This year’s theme is: “Strengthening the Fundamental Infrastructure for National ID Utilization.”
