Somalia Condemns Israeli Airstrike in Qatar, Calls for International Action

MOGADISHU, SOMALIA — The Federal Republic of Somalia has voiced strong condemnation of a recent Israeli airstrike on the capital of Qatar, calling the action a serious violation of international law. The Somali government’s position was made public immediately, showing its stance on the escalating situation in the region.

The government’s official statement from Mogadishu described the military action as a grave terrorist act that infringes upon the national sovereignty of the State of Qatar. Somalia further asserted that the targeting of residential areas, which house members of the Hamas political bureau, deliberately puts innocent civilians at risk.

Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation affirmed that the attack represents a flagrant breach of global principles and poses a direct threat to peace and security, both regionally and internationally. In response, Somalia has formally called on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its duties and take swift, effective measures to halt these hostile actions and ensure the protection of civilians. The statement also affirmed that Somalia stands in full solidarity with the people of Qatar in the face of this aggression.

This diplomatic pronouncement comes amid reports of an Israeli airstrike targeting Hamas leaders in Doha. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have acknowledged the operation, stating that it was a precise strike against senior members of the organization who they claim are responsible for the October 7 massacre. The attack is said to have occurred while Hamas officials were engaged in a meeting to discuss a new ceasefire proposal.

The strike has been met with condemnation from various nations and international bodies. Qatar has officially denounced the attack as a “cowardly criminal assault” and a violation of its sovereignty, while Hamas has stated that no members of its negotiating team were harmed. The incident has raised significant concerns about the future of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire and the release of hostages, which have been a central point of negotiation in Doha.

As the international community grapples with the fallout from the attack, Somalia’s firm condemnation highlights its commitment to upholding international law and promoting stability and security in the broader Middle East.
