Mogadishu, SONNA — Major General Odawa Yusuf Rage, Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA), conducted an inspection of Bariire in the Lower Shabelle region today, reviewing ongoing operations aimed at eliminating Kharijite militants. The visit underscored the army’s commitment to sustaining pressure on the extremist group while recognizing the efforts of Somali and allied forces in securing recent victories.

Major General Odawa Yusuf Rage, Commander of the Somali National Army, visited Bariire in the Lower Shabelle region to assess the progress of ongoing military operations targeting the elimination of Kharijite militants. The inspection aimed to boost troop morale, evaluate operational strategies, and strengthen coordination among Somali forces and their partners.

During his visit, Gen. Odawa met with the Commander of the Bariire Regional Forces, who was recently liberated from the control of the terrorist group. He also held discussions with Major General Ali Ahmed Xaashi, Commander of the SNA’s 17th Gor Gor Commando Brigade, who provided a detailed briefing on the recent defeats inflicted on the enemy in the area.

The SNA Chief praised the Somali soldiers and their counterparts from the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) for their resilience and determination in the fight against terrorism. He commended their successes in recent operations, highlighting the strategic importance of securing Bariire as a key step in dismantling militant strongholds across the region.

The visit reflects the Somali National Army’s continued resolve to push back extremist elements, restore stability, and create safer conditions for civilians in liberated areas. Operations in Bariire form part of a wider national campaign to eradicate the Kharijite threat and consolidate government authority in formerly contested territories.
