Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing Mogadishu, Friday, 6th June, 2025

1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud congratulated the Somali people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, and delivered a speech addressing the political situation in the country.

2- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud participated with the people of Mogadishu in the prayer of Eid al-Adha.

3- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially extended invitations to former presidents, former prime ministers and their deputies, former speakers and deputy speakers of Parliament, as well as FMS presidents, to attend a high-level consultative meeting to be held in Mogadishu.

4- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a consultative meeting with the leadership of registered political organizations.

5- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received accreditation letters from the new British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King.

6- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke via telephone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, discussing cooperation in security, economic development, and investment between the two countries.

7- Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble congratulated the Muslim community, especially the Somali people, wherever they are, on the blessed occasion of Eid al-Adha.

8- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre visited the historic city of Djibouti, where the Somali Republic was founded in 2000.

9- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre met with Djibouti President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh in Djibouti, discussing relations between the two countries, security, politics, economics, and regional issues.

10- The Cabinet of the Federal Republic of Somalia has approved the appointment of the new Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, Mr. Mahad Mohamed Salad.

11- The Cabinet of the Federal Republic of Somalia held a meeting focused on assessing the country’s security, preparations for Eid celebrations, Independence Week, and national exams.

12- Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama closed the National Conference on Weapons Management, Ammunition, and Countering Fake Bombs, which lasted two days in Mogadishu.

13- Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama inaugurated the National Climate Change Conference organized by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Mogadishu.

14- Minister of Defense Ahmed Moallim Fiqi met with Italian Defense Forces Commander General Luciano Portolano during whos visited Mogadishu during the week.

15- Somalia has for the first time succeeded in obtaining membership in the Executive Council of UN-Habitat, an organization responsible for Urban Planning & Land Management and Climate Action.

16- Minister of Education, Heritage, and Higher Education Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir laid the foundation for a new girls’ school being built in Mogadishu.

17- Minister of Interior, Federalism, and Reconciliation Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh presided over the preparatory meeting for the celebrations of Independence and Unity Day, marking the 65th anniversary on June 26 and July 1.

18- Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Yusuf Mohamed Aden met with Turkish Minister of Labor Prof. Dr. Vedat Işıkhan in Geneva, Switzerland.

19- Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Yusuf Mohamed Aden participated in the 113th International Workers’ Conference in Geneva, discussing core principles and workers’ rights.

20- Senate Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Hon. Cabdi Hashi Abdullahi, met with the Speaker of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Valentina Matviyenko, in Moscow.

21- State Minister of Internal Security Mohamed Ali Hagaa held a special meeting with officials from Somali government security agencies and UN Somalia Office (UNMIS).

22- U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, conducted two airstrikes targeting ISIS-Kharijites.

23- The Ministry of Health and Social Care delivered three new emergency aid vehicles to the health administration of Hiiraan region of HirShabelle State.

24- Finance Minister Bihi Iman Igeh has won the Africa Finance Minister of 2025 Award from the African Leadership Magazine via online voting.

25- Trade and Industry Minister Mohamoud Adan Geesood participated in the 46th Regional Meeting of the Council of Trade, Industry, Finance, and Investment of the East African Community in Arusha, Tanzania.

26- Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Asad Abdirisak Mohamed participated in the IFAD Innovation Day 2025 held in Italy, organized by the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

27- Ambassador Abdihakim Mohamed Ahmed (Dhoobo Daareed) handed over his accreditation letters to the President of Yemen.

28- Minister of Family and Human Rights Khadiija Maxamed Al-Makhzoumi opened a written exam for candidates competing for the Independent Human Rights Commission of Somalia.

29- Somali Army Chief, Major General Odawaa Yusuf Rage, held a meeting with Italian Army Chief General Luciano Portolano during his official visit to Somalia.

30- The Somali Police Force apprehended suspected criminal Mohamed Hassan Adan, involved in social deception and tarnishing the reputation of the National Forces.
