Somali Forces achieve major victory against Al-Shabaab militants in Hiiran region

Mogadishu, (SONNA) – Ali Jeyte Osman, the Somali President’s Envoy for Regional Forces, has provided an update on recent military operations against the Al-Shabaab terrorist group in the Hiiran region. In a press briefing, Jeyte revealed that the Somali National Army, in collaboration with the National Security Forces, the Hiil Walaal militia, and local community forces, launched a robust offensive against Al-Shabaab militants entrenched in the mountains of Hiran.

The operation resulted in significant blows to the group, including the elimination of several high-ranking commanders. Jeyte also highlighted that foreign fighters affiliated with Al-Shabaab were among those killed during the operation. These foreign militants had reportedly infiltrated the area with the intent of destabilizing the Somali people.

“I want to inform the Somali public that during the recent battles, foreign fighters who were not Somali nationals were killed in the mountains. They were unable to survive in the harsh terrain, and many of their leaders were neutralized. Those who survived are being pursued,” Jeyte stated.

He called on the Somali people to continue supporting the national and regional forces in their efforts to eradicate Al-Shabaab, whose aim is to destabilize the country and exploit vulnerable communities. Jeyte assured the public that the ongoing operations would soon bring an end to the group’s destructive activities.

This latest offensive marks a critical step in the ongoing campaign to liberate key areas from Al-Shabaab’s control and restore stability to the region.
