Jakarta, Indonesia – The 2nd Deputy Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, recently attended the 19th Islamic Parliament Conference held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The four-day conference brought together representatives from Islamic parliaments around the world to discuss critical issues facing Muslim nations.

The 19th session of the conference focused on the theme of good governance and building strong institutions within OIC member states. Discussions also centered on the rights of Muslim minorities globally, exploring strategies to enhance the participation of youth, women, and civil society in inclusive democratic processes. Furthermore, delegates deliberated on the objectives outlined in the Charter of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States and the importance of upholding the principles of the OIC Charter, the United Nations Charter, and international law.

Addressing the conference, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Somali Parliament, Mr. Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, delivered a comprehensive speech highlighting the crucial role of parliaments in combating Islamophobia, xenophobia, intolerance, and all forms of discrimination. He emphasized the need for member state parliaments to actively promote the values of Islamic principles, uphold the dignity of Muslims, encourage parliamentary dialogue, and protect the dignity and rights of all people, setting a positive example for their societies.

Mr. Abshirow’s participation in this significant international forum reflects Somalia’s commitment to engaging with other Islamic nations on key issues of governance, human rights, and international cooperation, while also advocating for the dignity and rights of Muslims worldwide.
