Mogadishu, SONNA – The Somali National Army (SNA) has dealt a significant blow to the Khawarij, eliminating key leaders and militias in targeted strikes across the Middle Shabelle region. The operations, which took place on the outskirts of Sumadale and in the areas of Sabiid and Canole, mark a major victory in the ongoing fight against the extremist group.
According to a press release from the Federal Government of Somalia, the first operation was conducted last night in Sumadale, where Khawarij leaders and militias were reportedly holding a meeting. Acting on precise intelligence, the National Army’s special forces launched a meticulously planned assault, resulting in the deaths of all Khawarij members present. The operation, which lasted several hours, was executed without any reported casualties among government forces.
In a separate incident, the Somali National Army successfully repelled a Khawarij attack in the Sabiid and Canole areas, where the SNA maintains strategic bases. The National Guard, described as being on “full alert,” engaged the militants in a fierce battle that lasted for hours. The Khawarij were ultimately defeated, with dozens of their militiamen killed. The surviving militants fled the scene, taking the bodies of their fallen comrades with them.
The Federal Government praised the bravery and dedication of the National Army, stating, “We send our prayers to the heroes who were martyred and those who were injured in that operation. We also commend the successes they achieved against the Khawarij and thank our international friends who continue to support us in this fight.”
The Somali National Army, in collaboration with local communities and international partners, remains committed to eradicating the Khawarij threat across the country. These recent operations show the government’s determination to restore peace and stability to Somalia, even as the fight against extremism continues.
