New York, SONNA – Somalia and Sweden jointly organized a high-level meeting at the United Nations Headquarters, focusing on eradicating poverty and advancing women’s empowerment.

The meeting was co-chaired by Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, Somalia’s Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, and Ms. Paulina Brandberg, Sweden’s Minister of Gender Affairs. As part of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), the event brought together global experts and policymakers to discuss strategies for achieving gender equality and addressing socio-economic challenges faced by women.

Minister Al-Makhzoumi highlighted Somalia’s progress in empowering women, emphasizing ongoing initiatives to enhance economic opportunities, education, and protection for women and girls. She reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to ensuring gender equality as a key pillar of national development.

The meeting underscored the significance of international collaboration in tackling gender disparities and poverty, with global leaders commending Somalia’s efforts in fostering inclusive development.

As CSW69 continues, Somalia remains engaged in advocating for policies that uplift women and promote sustainable socio-economic growth.
