Mogadishu, Somalia – November 21, 2024 – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Somali teachers today in celebration of Teacher’s Day on November 21.
In his address, President Mohamud praised teachers for their crucial role in fostering the knowledge, skills, and morals of the Somali community. He emphasized that teachers are the pillars of society, highlighting the significance of their profession.
“The teacher shapes the society as it will look like in the long term, while the soldier removes the thorns from Somalia today, and these are the two most important jobs in the country,” President Mohamud stated.
President Mohamud stressed the need to strengthen support for teachers, noting the Federal Government’s plan to recruit 10,000 teachers, with 6,000 already employed. He acknowledged that although this number is still below the needs of society, it represents a significant step towards improving the quality of education in the country.
The President called on the entire Somali community to recognize and appreciate the vital role of teachers, as they are instrumental in guiding the new generation and shaping the future of the nation.
