Nairobi, SONNA – The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, has opened a high-level meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, to discuss the completion and implementation of the Early Warning for All (EW4ALL) initiative. This initiative focuses on preparing the community for public hazard warnings through four crucial pillars.
The two-day meeting aims to address and close the gaps in the National High-Risk Early Warning System (NMHEWC) to achieve the goal of saving lives through an effective early warning system. As Somalia’s frontline agency for high-risk management, SoDMA is tasked with facilitating the process and completion of this initiative.
Organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the consultation meeting brought together various international agencies including UNDP, UNDRR, FAO, WMO, UNFPA, UNHCR, the World Bank, CIMA Research Foundation, and officials from the Ministries and various agencies of the Federal Government of Somalia.
This early warning system is a crucial step forward for Somalia, aimed at establishing an effective collective threat warning mechanism under the leadership of SoDMA. The initiative seeks to predict and mitigate future threats, providing timely warnings to all Somali people, and enhancing the country’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
