MOGADISHU –The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Somalia have agreed to collaborate closely to enhance their disaster preparedness and response strategies.
During a strategic meeting in Mogadishu, directors and technical advisors from both agencies engaged in in-depth discussions about their strategic plans. The focus was to identify and prioritize areas where they could work together to improve their ability to predict, prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate-induced disasters.
The outcome of the meeting was a mutual commitment to develop strategies that will strengthen the existing relationship between SoDMA and FAO Somalia. This collaboration is seen as a critical step towards building a more resilient Somalia, capable of withstanding the increasing frequency and severity of climate-related disasters.
Both agencies have recognized the urgency of addressing the challenges posed by climate change and are dedicated to implementing a coordinated approach to disaster management. The partnership aims to leverage the expertise and resources of both organizations to better protect the Somali people and their livelihoods.
This agreement is an indication to the proactive efforts being made by Somali institutions and international bodies to confront the global issue of climate change head-on.
