Mogadishu, Somalia – A joint delegation comprising members from the Swedish government, the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), and a representative from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) embarked on an insightful visit to the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) facilities.
The delegation was warmly received by the commissioner of SoDMA, Mr. Mohamud Maallim Abdulle, and his deputy, Dr. Ahmed Abdi Adan. Their first stop was the National Center for Emergency Operations (NEOC), a pivotal establishment funded by the Swedish government. During the visit, the NEOC manager, Mr. Hassan Abdul Qadir, provided a comprehensive briefing on the center’s commendable achievements, strategic plans, ongoing challenges, and the critical operations spearheaded by SoDMA.
Following the NEOC tour, the delegation proceeded to SoDMA’s headquarters for a constructive meeting with Chairman Abdulle. They also toured the SoDMA disaster warning center, which plays a crucial role in the nation’s response to natural calamities.
Expressing his gratitude, Commissioner Abdulle highlighted the critical support of the Swedish government in constructing the NEOC center and their consistent partnership with SoDMA. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to enhancing Somalia’s resilience against disasters and fostering a safer future for its citizens.
The visit marks a reaffirmation of the strong ties between Somalia and Sweden, paving the way for continued cooperation in disaster management and humanitarian efforts.
