Beledweyne, Somalia – The Somali National Army (SNA) has killed a member of the al-Shabaab terror group who was planning to attack the residents of Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiraan region.

The operation took place on Friday, January 26, 2024, in the Bundo-Weyne neighborhood, where the SNA’s 5th battalion of the 27th division, acting on intelligence from the local community, confronted the terrorist and shot him dead.

The SNA recovered the body of the terrorist, who was identified as a resident of the neighborhood, and seized various weapons from him, including hand grenades and pistols.

The commander of the 5th battalion, Colonel Mohamud Hassan Ibrahim Baakay, commended the cooperation of the Bundo-Weyne community and the role of the national army in the fight against terrorism.

He said that the SNA will not tolerate any al-Shabaab sympathizers or collaborators in the region and urged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the security forces.

He also assured the residents of Beledweyne and the Hiraan region of the SNA’s commitment to protect them from the al-Shabaab threat and restore peace and stability in the area.

The SNA has been conducting a series of operations against al-Shabaab in the Hiraan region, with the support of international partners.
