Mogadishu, SONNA – The Speaker of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), alongside the Deputy Speaker of the two houses of parliament, His Excellency Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, chaired a significant Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday. The gathering took place at the Speaker and Committees headquarters in Villa Hargeisa, Mogadishu.

The meeting was convened to mark the opening of the 6th session of the House of the People, Somalia’s lower house of parliament. It brought together standing members of various parliamentary committees to discuss their plans for the upcoming session and review the legislative agenda, including key laws currently under consideration.

In his closing remarks, Speaker Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur emphasized the importance of the 6th session, noting that the House of the People will undertake critical tasks vital to the nation’s governance. He highlighted the parliament’s commitment to advancing legislative measures that will strengthen Somalia’s institutions and address pressing national issues.

“The sixth session, which will soon commence, will see the House of the People tackle significant responsibilities. We will focus on enacting various laws that are essential for the country’s governance and progress,” said Speaker Madoobe.

The meeting emphasized the parliament’s dedication to fostering stability and development in Somalia through robust legislative oversight and policymaking. The Standing Committees play a pivotal role in shaping the legislative agenda, ensuring that laws align with the nation’s priorities and the needs of its citizens.

As Somalia continues its path toward recovery and growth, the 6th session of the House of the People is expected to address key challenges and opportunities, further solidifying the country’s democratic governance and institutional frameworks.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among committee members, who expressed their readiness to contribute to the legislative process and support the nation’s development goals.
