Lesotho, SONNA — delegation from the Federal Government of Somalia, led by the Deputy Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, Maryan Ali Abuukar, has taken part in the 47th Session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child held in Lesotho.
During the high-level session, Deputy Minister Maryan delivered a keynote address emphasizing the critical importance of ratifying the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child as a key step toward strengthening the protection and promotion of children’s rights in Somalia.
In her remarks, she highlighted the need for robust legal and institutional frameworks to safeguard children’s welfare, noting that ratification of the Charter would further align Somalia’s national policies with continental standards on child protection and development.
On the sidelines of the session, the Deputy Minister held a series of bilateral meetings with participating officials and stakeholders, focusing on enhancing cooperation and building strategic partnerships to support child welfare initiatives and long-term development programs in Somalia.
The participation of the Somali delegation underscores the government’s continued commitment to advancing children’s rights and engaging actively in regional platforms aimed at improving the well-being of children across Africa.
