MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Somali Police Force has executed a comprehensive deployment of security personnel across the Benadir region to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming local council elections. With the historic vote scheduled for tomorrow, December 25, the leadership of the police force has mobilized dedicated units to ensure a peaceful environment for citizens exercising their democratic rights.

The deployment operation was personally overseen by the Somali Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, accompanied by Deputy Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Osman Abdullahi. The high command inspected the readiness of the forces before dispatching them to their designated operational zones throughout the capital. This strategic positioning is designed to cover all polling stations and critical infrastructure, guaranteeing the safety of voters and election officials alike.

Addressing the officers prior to their departure, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi issued strict directives regarding their conduct during the electoral process. He emphasized the weight of the national responsibility resting on their shoulders, urging every officer to execute their duties with the utmost efficiency, neutrality, and professionalism. The Commissioner stressed that the primary objective is to serve the interests of the nation and its people, ensuring that the democratic exercise proceeds without intimidation or disruption.

In a move reflecting the force’s commitment to community-oriented policing, the Commissioner provided specific instructions on assisting vulnerable segments of the population. Officers have been mandated to offer special assistance and priority to the elderly, persons with disabilities, and mothers arriving at polling centers. This directive aims to ensure that every eligible citizen, regardless of their physical condition, can access the ballot box with dignity and ease.

These security measures come as Mogadishu prepares for a landmark event, with citizens set to elect their district representatives directly. The visible presence of the police is intended to instill confidence in the electorate as the capital embraces this significant step in its governance and democratization journey.
