MOGADISHU, SONNA — The Commissioner of the Somali Police Force, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, received in his office the Chairperson of the Independent National Human Rights Commission, Dr. Maryam Qaasim, alongside the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, Mohamed Harun, Director General Mustafa Ahmed, and other commissioners.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Somali Police Force and the Independent National Human Rights Commission, particularly in the areas of human rights protection, accountability, complaints handling, and monitoring conditions in prisons and detention facilities.
Both sides emphasized the importance of reinforcing the protection of citizens’ rights while ensuring respect for human rights principles and the rule of law.
The discussions also highlighted the need for continued coordination between law enforcement institutions and human rights bodies to improve oversight mechanisms and promote justice and public confidence in national institutions.
