Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Chairperson of Somalia’s National Independent Human Rights Commission, Dr. Maryan Qasim, met today with the Special Presidential Envoy for Stabilization and Civilian Protection, Omar Hashi, to discuss cooperation on civilian protection and human rights oversight.
Discussions focused on practical collaboration between the Office of the Envoy and the National Independent Human Rights Commission on civilian protection, institutional coordination, accountability, and human rights monitoring, particularly following the approval of Somalia’s National Civilian Protection Policy.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of close cooperation to strengthen oversight, promote accountability, and support rights-based civilian protection in line with Somalia’s constitutional framework, human rights obligations, and broader stabilisation efforts.
