Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Somali National Army (SNA) has intensified security operations in and around Berdale district in the Bay region ahead of the upcoming Southwest State presidential election.
Military officials said the operations are aimed at protecting civilians and preventing threats from Al-Shabaab militants as electoral preparations continue across the region.
The heightened security comes after 13 districts in Southwest State successfully held local elections last week, marking a key step in the region’s democratic process.
Preparations are now underway in Baidoa, the administrative capital of Southwest State, where the presidential election is expected later this month. The National Electoral Commission said security agencies are working closely to ensure a safe and peaceful vote.
