DJIBOUTI (SONNA) – Somalia’s Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Mukhtar Robow Ali, who was on an official visit to the Republic of Djibouti this week, paid a courtesy call on the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh.
The Minister, accompanied by his Djiboutian counterpart, Mumin Hassan Barre, thanked the President of the Republic of Djibouti for his unwavering support and steadfast assistance to Somalia. Minister Robow acknowledged President Guelleh as the “Savior of Somalia” following the collapse of the state in 1991. This recognition stems particularly from President Guelleh’s role in hosting the Arta Peace Conference in 2000, which led to the re-establishment of the Third Republic of Somalia.
Minister Robow expressed gratitude to President Guelleh and the Djiboutian Minister of Endowments for the warm, brotherly reception extended to him and his delegation.
He concluded by stating that the Somali Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs intends to implement in Somalia the successful initiatives and lessons learned from Djibouti. These initiatives include establishing Awqaf (endowments), setting up a Zakat registry, and building an Institute of Moderation to spread a culture of peace, similar to the one operating in Djibouti.
