MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, hosted a high-level delegation from the Republic of Türkiye at his residence in Mogadishu on Wednesday night. Led by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, H.E. Durmuş Ünüvar, the meeting centered on fortifying the strategic alliance between the two nations, with a particular focus on expanding cooperation in port management, maritime transport, security, and energy sectors.

During the discussions, Prime Minister Barre highlighted the critical nature of sustaining and broadening the historic partnership that binds Mogadishu and Ankara. He acknowledged the visible and transformative role the Turkish government has played in the reconstruction of Somalia’s economic infrastructure, noting that these investments have been essential for the country’s recovery. The Prime Minister conveyed deep appreciation for the support of the Turkish government and people, particularly during critical moments when foreign entities attempted to interfere with the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

In response, Deputy Minister Durmuş Ünüvar expressed his gratitude for the warm reception extended by the Prime Minister and the Somali government. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s dedication to accelerating the implementation of joint agreements and development projects. The Deputy Minister emphasized that these initiatives are designed to directly stimulate economic growth and enhance commercial trade volumes between the two brotherly states.

The high-profile meeting was also attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Alper Aktaş. In a gesture of goodwill and shared values, the delegation presented Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre with a prestigious gift inscribed with verses from the Holy Quran, symbolizing the deep cultural and religious ties connecting the two nations.
