Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), paid an urgent visit to Bakara Market today following complaints from traders over illegal land grabbing activities by unidentified individuals.
In response to the growing concerns, Mayor Muungaab announced a directive from the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, reaffirming that no one has the authority to displace traders or claim public land within the market. He emphasized that the land belongs to the Mogadishu Municipality and that no eviction orders have been issued by either the Banadir Regional Administration or national leadership.
“I am here on behalf of the President. No one has the legal right to this land, and no one can forcibly remove you from your businesses. If anyone threatens you, we will take action,” said Mayor Muungaab, urging those behind the attempts to illegally claim the land to fear God and abandon their actions.
The Mayor underscored the city administration’s responsibility to protect the people and their property, warning against any attempts to forge documents to unlawfully seize public land in markets such as Bakara, Suuq Bacaad, and Xamar Weyne.
Accompanying him on the visit were the Deputy Governor for Security and Politics, Mohamed Ahmed Diriye, the Director of Markets, Nur Hussein Hassan, and the District Commissioner of Howlwadaag, Bashir Abdi Mohamed.
