MOGADISHU (SONNA) – The Federal Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Moalim Mohamud, conducted a strategic tour of the Dayniile district on Friday, intensifying the government’s campaign to mobilize the electorate for the upcoming local council elections.
The visit focused on assessing the district’s readiness for the polls and engaging directly with the community. The Minister’s presence in Dayniile serves as part of a broader administration effort to ensure that the transition to universal suffrage reaches every neighborhood in the capital.
During his interactions with local residents and community leaders, Minister Hassan Moalim issued a strong call to action regarding the logistical requirements of the vote. He urged every eligible citizen in Dayniile to secure their voter card before the critical deadline of December 25th.
The Minister emphasized that possession of the card is the only gateway for citizens to exercise their constitutional rights. He framed the act of voting not merely as a procedure, but as a reclaiming of agency that has been absent from the Somali political landscape for decades.
Speaking on the broader implications of the election, Minister Hassan Moalim described the shift to a “One Person, One Vote” system as a historic milestone in Somalia’s state-building journey.
“Restoring power to the people is a historic step towards building a transparent political system,” the Minister stated. He argued that these elections form the bedrock of the nation’s governance reforms, fundamentally shifting accountability from selected elites back to the general public.
The Minister reiterated that the “DanQaran” administration remains steadfast in its mission to return political power to its rightful owners—the Somali citizens. He noted that the government’s push for direct elections is a fulfillment of its promise to enfranchise the population and establish a system of governance that is truly representative of the people’s will.
By visiting Dayniile, the Ministry of Justice aims to ensure that the legal and constitutional right to vote is understood and exercised by all, solidifying the legitimacy of the upcoming municipal councils.
