Mogadishu (SONNA): The Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Mr. Abdulkadir Ilmi, today participated in a meeting focused on the role of Somali women in state-building, peacebuilding, and national development.
The event was attended by the United Kingdom Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Charles King, and the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Ms. Francesca di Mauro. Representatives from women’s organizations, local governments, and other development partners were also present.
In his remarks, the Director General emphasized that Somali women are the backbone of society and play a significant role in maintaining stability, participating in politics, and advancing the country’s overall development.
Mr. Abdulkadir further underscored the need for inclusive policies that support the empowerment and skills development of Somali women, while addressing the cultural and economic barriers they face, to ensure full participation and social equity.
“The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to strengthening women’s participation at all levels of governance by expanding on the progress achieved and aligning efforts with national priorities,” the Director General concluded.
