Digital Transformation Takes Flight: Somali Air Force Celebrates Successful Completion of EUTM-Somalia Computer Seminar

In a significant step toward the modernization of Somalia’s Armed Forces, the Somali Air Force—in partnership with the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S)—has successfully concluded a four-week computer seminar aimed at enhancing digital competencies across defense operations.

Held at the International Campus in Mogadishu, the seminar empowered Somali Air Force personnel with practical skills in data processing, cyber awareness, digital communication, and collaborative platforms. Structured across three levels—basic, intermediate, and advanced—the course supports broader efforts to align Somalia’s defense sector with global, technology-driven standards.

The closing ceremony, attended by senior officials, was marked by the distinguished presence of Brigadier General Mohamed Goodax Barre, Secretary General of the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF), representing the Deputy of SNAF; General Giuseppe Zizzari, EUTM-Somalia Multi-Force Commander; and Colonel Yusuf Eimoy Saqawe, Head of G3 of the Somali Air Force.

General Zizzari delivered an inspiring address to the attendees, stating: “Your commitment to learning reflects not only a dedication to your personal growth but also to the broader mission of modernizing and strengthening your Armed Forces. By embracing technology, you are helping to ensure that Somalia’s military evolves in step with global advancements.”

He also acknowledged the continued support of Somali authorities and expressed his deep appreciation for the professionalism and commitment demonstrated by EUTM-S instructors and staff, describing the seminar’s outcome as a “positive performance” that reaffirms EUTM-S’s dedication to Somalia’s defense development across multiple domains.

The seminar’s success is now viewed as a model for wider replication across all branches of the Somali National Armed Forces—including the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard—as well as strategic units such as the Training and Doctrine Command and the Sustainment Command.

The event underscored the shared commitment of the Federal Government of Somalia and the European Union to building a professional, modern, and digitally empowered national defense force.
