Somalia, Egypt Discuss Bilateral Relations and Security in Horn of Africa

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali and his Egyptian counterpart, H.E. Badr Abdelatty, held a telephone conversation on Tuesday focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and security developments in the Horn of Africa.
H.E. Minister Abdisalam thanked the Egyptian Government for its continued support to Somalia and reaffirmed the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to maintaining close relations and cooperation with Cairo to strengthen bilateral ties and advance shared interests.
For his part, H.E. Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s strong support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stressed that Egypt opposes any unilateral measures that could undermine Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Minister Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening its strategic cooperation with Somalia and continuing support for efforts to build the capacity of government institutions, particularly in combating terrorism and extremism.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister called for sustainable financing for the new African Union support and stabilization mission in Somalia, noting Egypt’s participation in the mission. He also stressed that the African Union mission and the United Nations mission supporting Somalia should continue to receive sufficient funding to help safeguard Somalia’s security, stability and unity.
